Lucknow: As many as 578 skilled shuttlers from across the city impressed the audience with their performance on the final day of the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship.

The Lucknow leg of Season 4 of the tournament concluded today at KD Babu Singh Stadium, bringing out top 16 shuttlers from the city.

In the Boys Singles U-15 category, Akash Singh from BBD UP Badminton Academy defeated Ayan Khan from Eklavya Sports Stadium with score 15-9, 15-7. In Girls Singles U-15 category, Paavani Paulene Kalra from BBD UP Badminton Academy defeated Suchi Pandey from Gopichand Badminton Academy, Greater Noida with score 12-15, 15-3, 15-11.

Mr. Nipun Kaushal, Chief Marketing Officer, PNB MetLife said, “JBC as a tournament has grown to become one of the biggest annual national open-platform’s for young badminton enthusiasts. Lucknow has given us a tremendous response, with over 578 participants. We hope to continue the momentum in other cities.  I want to congratulate the winners who showed such passion in their performance. We wish them all the best for the finale at New Delhi.”

Gracing the closing ceremony, Mr. Arun Kakkar, Badminton Association Secretary, as the Chief Guest on the occasion said, “The way PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship is nurturing and shaping young talent and making them competent to play against the badminton playing nations in the world is commendable.  Such initiatives are promoting badminton as a sport in the country and helping it gain the recognition and exposure it deserves. I would like to congratulate all the winners today, who would be going on to compete in the tournament.”

PNB MetLife has partnered with the CRY Foundation as CSR Partner for this initiative. The objective is to use sports as an effective medium of empowerment for children and helping them undergo a transformational change. The competition helps in nurturing the right talent at an amateur level, thereby fostering their growth and ability to perform on a global scale.

The next leg of this year’s championship is scheduled from 3rd July in Pune.
